Unit 5 . Learning about China

The first period
Content: Unit 5. Topic 1:The man who is giving a class is Confucius. Section A (P9-10)
Teaching aims and demands:
1).In this unit students learn to talk about China’s historical persons and historical events.
2).Go on learning the attributive clauses.(2)
3).Learn to catch the meanings of some familiar persons and personal feelings and get the main information.
Teaching important points and difficult points:
1).Express one’s own opinions and ideas in proper words.
2).Learn to use the attributive clauses and can exchang personal feelings .
Teaching method : The deductive method.
Teaching aids: The tape、 the flashing cards.
Teaching procedure:
Step 1.Review
1. Let the students talk about the feelings about the winter holidays and the Spring Festival in groups .
2. Ask the students to look at the map on page 8, the part 3,choose 1 student to give a report about the Spring City in class.
Step 2. Presentation
1.Show the flashing cards about Confucius, ask 1 or 2 students to talk,then finish
2.Play the tape ,learn the parts
3.Let the students act the dialog in the part
Step 3.Practice
1.“Listen and choose the right answers”,go through the part 2 on page 10.Then check the answers together .
2.Ask the students to discuss China’s dynasty freely.
3.Discussion:Who is Chen Sheng/ Liu bang/ Wu Guang/ Qing Shihuang ?
Step 4. Consolidation
1. Let the students’ express the students’ own ideas about Confucius with the attributive clauses.
2. Grasp the attributive clauses(that/ who/ whom/ whose.)
Step 5.Project/ Homework
1. Write an article to sum up Confucius’ thoughts about nature 、the world and human behavior.
2. Recite the part 1b on page 9.
