Best Buy taps high-end vending kiosks
By Jonathan Birchall in New York
Best Buy (NYSE:BBY) , the largest US consumer electronics retailer, is setting up high-end vending machines in 12 US airports that will sell digital cameras and MP3 players costing several hundred dollars.
The move highlights Best Buy's desire to capitalise on a growing US willingness to purchase more than just snacks and drinks from automatic machines.
Best Buy's decision to test the automatic kiosks follows the apparently successful deployment by Apple of similar machines selling its hugely successful iPod music players, which first appeared in airports and hotels more than 18 months ago.
