选自《创世纪》第二章第21--23节

And the lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept;He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. The the rib which the lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.

  And Adam said:"This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh;she shall be called woman,because she was taken out of man."

 

神让亚当沉睡，他就睡了。于是神就取下他的一根肋骨，又把肉合起来。神就用那人身上取出的肋骨造出一个女人，并把她带到男人身边。

亚当说；“这是我骨中之骨，肉中之肉，她将被成为女人，因为她是从男人身上取出来的。"

Define bone:     

 : one of the hard parts of the skeleton of a vertebrate

n. 骨,骨骼
v. 剔去(鱼等的)骨

Examples:

   他摔断了一根腿骨。

flesh:

 

Define flesh:     

n. 肉
the soft parts of the body of an animal and especially of a vertebrate;


Examples:
1. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.
   心有余而力不足。
2. I'll have to go to my aunt's funeral she was my own flesh and blood after all.
   我得参加我姑姑的葬礼－－她是我的亲人哪。

 

 

rib:

 

Define rib:     

 any of the paired curved bony or partly cartilaginous rods that stiffen the walls of the body of most vertebrates and protect the viscera

Examples:

   一个人有几条肋骨？
2. It is not true that woman is made from man's rib; she is really made from his funny bone.
   女人并非真的以男人的肋骨来造成的；其实，她是由男人的“笑骨”[尺骨]造成的。
