(生物谷Bioon.com)

Currently, there are 3,800 million people worldwide infected with HIV and AIDS, an annual increase of 4.1 million. For scientists, learn more about the AIDS virus mutation and drug resistance mechanism, which is essential for long-term effective treatment of AIDS.

From Victoria University, a biomedical engineer Stephanie Willerth found a new medical breakthrough! It greatly deepened the understanding of AIDS, and people tell us how to deal with it! The article published in PLoS ONE,.

"HIV is very high frequency variation, which for AIDS patients, terrible, because these viruses ultimately Kangai Yao had a resistance." Willerth explained.

Willerth and its partners have carried out on more than 15,000 kinds of viruses, some virus is never studied before. They found that resistance to provide a basis for specific gene. Obviously, this will eventually help researchers develop more effective treatment of AIDS drugs.

The researchers believe that the research methods used in the process also applies to a number of difficult to treat diseases such as swine flu, Ebola, influenza or staphylococcal infections.

"In order to study these variants, we have these viruses replicated many times, especially with regard to some complex viruses, such as HIV." Willerth said, "most scientists have avoided trying to copy a large number of high-risk infectious virus, but we need to copy large amount of genetic material. We adopted a unique approach, we isolated the HIV genetic material. Of course, we copy the genetic material, the virus does not have the activity. "

Willerth and long-term team from those infected with AIDS virus who received a small sample, of course, before the body has confirmed that these patients had AIDS drug resistance. The researchers used a new generation of DNA sequencing technology to analyze the composition of these genetic materials. (Bio Valley Bioon.com)
