VICTORIA - P. Sanchez Jerseys .E.I.s quest to reach the Page playoffs at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts came up short. Less than a centimetre short. Canadas Jennifer Jones earned steals in the 10th and 11th ends to rally for a thrilling 6-5 win over P.E.I.s Rebecca Jean MacPhee in Fridays tiebreaker. The defending champions advance to Saturdays 3-versus-4 Page playoff game (TSN, 2:30 p.m.), where theyll face Saskatchewans Stefanie Lawton. The loss was as heartbreaking as it gets for MacPhee and her sister, Robyn, who throws P.E.I.s final stones. Facing a well-guarded Canada stone at the edge of the button in the extra end, Robyn threw what everyone thought was a perfect shot. The P.E.I. rock nudged the Canadian stone, then spun sideways, as both stones came to rest in the four-foot. After eyeing up both shots twice, P.E.I. conceded that Jones had shot rock, keeping the defending champions alive by the slimmest of margins. "I really thought we had it," said Rebecca Jean MacPhee, who beat Jones in the round robin. "I actually said to Robyn afterwards that she had exactly the weight we wanted, we had the line we wanted, and Im surprised that with (that) weight it rolled off that much. "I thought it was going to stick right there." Jones also thought P.E.I. might have pulled out the victory as she watched MacPhees final shot head towards the house. "I thought she threw it pretty well," said Jones. "We knew she was going to be close, it was just a question of whether it was going to curl enough, and lucky enough for us, it didnt. "They played outstanding ... a shot here or there, it could have gone either way." Jones had left MacPhee with the same shot one end earlier. It, too, missed by a fraction, sending the game to an extra end. "They were an inch from perfect, both of them," said Robyn. "I threw those two perfect, they just didnt finish right at the end." Canada had been snake-bitten by narrow misses all week, and Jones was glad a close decision finally went her teams way. "Things (didnt) seem to be going our way," said Jones. "We got a couple misses out of them, and made our shots as good as we can." For the MacPhees, Fridays loss was a disappointing end to what was a fantastic week. P.E.I. entered as a dark horse, but opened the round robin with consecutive wins over the Territories and New Brunwick, and finished with pivotal victories over Canada and B.C., to earn a tiebreaker berth. In between, the MacPhees, along with second Shelley Muzika and lead Tammi Lowther, showed they belonged against the countrys best teams. "Of course were disappointed, because we wanted to make it into that 3-4 game," said Rebecca Jean. "But to finish second in the round-robin (tied at 7-4), we have to be pleased." Jones, third Cathy Overton-Clapham, second Jill Officer and lead Dawn Askin werent sharp early, giving up a steal of two after Jones was barely off with her final shot of the third end. Canada replied with two points in the fourth end, and the teams traded singles over the next five ends. Canada had nearly tied the game in the ninth end, when Jones played a takeout for one sure point. Two shots sitting on the edge of the 12-foot went to a measurement, and the P.E.I. stone was ruled to be closer, limiting Canada to the single point. It was the second straight dramatic victory for Jones, who needed a 7-5 win over B.C.s Marla Mallett in Thursdays final draw just to reach the tiebreaker. Though both games were nailbiters, Jones believes her team is playing a lot better than earlier in the week. "I thought we played well against B.C.," said Jones. "We came out a little flat in a couple of ends today, so well have to pick it up a little bit, but its starting to feel pretty good." Cowboys Newman Jersey . So close that his season debut could have come Friday night. "I was very tempted to suit him up and my coaching staff talked me out of it because I would definitely look down and throw him in and he hasnt had a practice yet," coach Erik Spoelstra said before the Heat faced the New York Knicks. JaMarcus Russell Jersey . Starting from 15th on the grid after a fuel pump failure in qualifying looked to have wrecked his weekend, Alonso benefited from an early safety car period that turned the race around. Bears Brian Urlacher Jersey . Having won every title going at the world table tennis championships earlier this month, China - as widely predicted - wrapped up the Sudirman Cup world team badminton championships on Sunday in equally emphatic fashion. Joe Thomas Jersey . Marlon Byrd finished 3-for-3 with an RBI and run scored while Ryan Dempster allowed one run on three hits and struck out three in a four-inning start. Esmailin Caridad got the win for throwing a perfect top of the 10th. 49ers Montana Jersey . With Andy Fantuz joining the NFLs Chicago Bears and Rob Bagg likely out for the season, receiver Chris Getzlaf will be expected to take on an even bigger role in the “Canadian Air Force”. New York Jets Dustin Keller Jersey . FC Dallas (1-2-1) had scored one goal while going winless in its first three matches. The Rapids (3-1-0) had outscored their opponents 8-2. Colorado beat FC Dallas 2-1 in last years MLS Cup. Roger Craig Jersey .Y. - Florida Panthers coach Peter DeBoer was hoping Nathan Horton would sometimes be more selfish and shoot instead of pass. Dallas Cowboys Ware Jersey . Not Leafs or Habs fans mind you, but diehard Flyers fans. Ken and Geoff Moyse, 40 and 37, brothers from St Johns, had an experience of a lifetime, and it will continue this coming week. BOSTON - Clearly, there have been some long, dreary Memorial Day Weekends for Boston Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs. This is not one of them. After the past four seasons ended with two losses in the second round, one in the first and another in which the post-season was missed altogether, Jacobs crew, for a change, is in the midst of a rewarding run to the Stanley Cup final. On Wednesday, the Bruins will meet the Vancouver Canucks in Game 1 after impressive victories over Montreal, Philadelphia and Tampa Bay. I think that (GM) Peter (Chiarelli) has put together a dream team, his dream, and as he saw it within the parameters that they have to work, Jacobs said on Sunday. I think (president) Cam (Neely) has shown great understanding of hockey. And this is a great city to play hockey in. This will be the Bruins first Stanley Cup final appearance since 1990. Vancouver hasnt made it this far since 1994. I think Im very lucky to have the leadership, both on the ice and in the back of the house, so to speak, Jacobs said. I cant speak enough for the total organization and how its moved forward. Im just so proud of what theyve achieved. It wasnt easy. Even though goaltender Tim Thomas has two shutouts and an impressive 2.29 goals-against average, and David Krejci and Nathan Horton each have 17 points through three rounds, the Bruins still had to play 18 games to get here. Wrapped around a surprisingly thorough four-game sweep of the Flyers in Round 2, were two emotionally draining seven-game series vs. the Canadiens and Lightning. Round 3 ended with a classic 1-0 victory over Tampa Bay on Friday night, in front of a charged home crowd. I think it was disciplined hockey at its best. You had to dig deep, Jacobs said. And I thought it was great hockey. This city thought it was great hockey. Thats more important than anything — that the fans came out the way they did, and that they responded the way they did. I couldnt have been more pleased with it. And keep in mind, the Bruins — in a sports town that is quick to push the panic button — opened the playoffs by dropping the first two games at home to Montreal. Boston is 12-4 since. I was disappointed we were down 2-0. I had a lot of confidence in our team, but I have to teell you — when youre down 2-0 — youve got to be concerned about whether or not you can pull that off, Jacobs said. Replicas Felix Jones Jersey. And to go into Montreal, and win the next two, well, that was very refreshing. The Bruins will journey back into Canada on Monday after a practice in Boston. The Canucks, who defeated Chicago, Nashville and San Jose to win the West, havent played since last Tuesday, when they defeated the Sharks 3-2 in Game 5 of the conference finals. Vancouver led the NHL with 117 points this season, 10 more than any other team. After a tougher-than-expected first round, in which they needed overtime of Game 7 to dispose of the Blackhawks, the Canucks have found their groove, dispatching the Predators and Sharks in six and five games, respectively. In the regular season, the Bruins defeated the Canucks in Vancouver 3-1 on Feb. 26. Vancouver native Milan Lucic scored the go-ahead goal on a rebound with 4:38 left, and Thomas made 26 saves. Our ambition is to go and win the Stanley Cup, Jacobs said. There is a common bond now that exists between everybody. Youve really built an organization, and I say a hockey organization, a player organization. The athletes are all committed to a central point, and that is a wonderful thing to see and a wonderful place to be. And its now up to coach Claude Julien to temper the enthusiasm, and keep the teams eyes on the prize. I think theyre obviously handling it very well. Were obviously excited to be here, Julien said. This is a position that weve wanted to be in since the beginning of the year. Having said that, I think were also aware of what has to be done for us to make it even better. And were really doing a good job of staying focused, and doing the things that we have to do here to prepare. Julien spoke to the media after Jacobs addressed his team on Sunday. I think it meant a lot. I was happy that he did take the time to speak to our team. We dont see him much during the regular season, Julien said. He comes and watches games, but he certainly is not one of those owners that will interfere and then come down much. So, thats his personality and its his style, and we respect that. But when he does come in, like he did today and address the team, everybody was happy to hear from him. ' ' '
