艾滋病作为世纪医疗难题,一直是全球人类难以战胜的敌人,媒体曾多次报道全球的科研人员已发现多种可有效医治、甚至根治艾滋病的方法,现正进行一连串临床测试,可算是给艾滋病携带者的一线曙光,近年来的研究成果包括:
2007年6月,德国科学家宣布成功从人类细胞中分离出艾滋病毒(HIV),令细胞再次变得健康。艾滋病毒可被一种叫Tre的酶“剪走”,然后恢复健康,2010年前会在老鼠身上进行试验,预计2017年前会找出根治艾滋病的方法。
2009年6月,加拿大蒙特利尔大学则发现或可彻底治愈艾滋病的方法,使用现时治疗癌症的化学疗法,可将藏在免疫系统记忆T细胞内的艾滋病毒一并杀死,故建议结合化疗及鸡尾酒疗法同时对付艾滋病。

9月,美国和泰国研究人员共同宣布,双方合作开发试验的一种“联合疫苗”可将人体感染艾滋病病毒的风险降低31.2%。
