据南非通讯社报道,南非国家艾滋病委员会官员伊兰德女士当天在南部港口城市德班参加一个名为“终身的兄弟”的防治艾滋病的活动时说,南非男性应该积极地参与到降低艾滋病感染率的战斗中来,他们首先要做的是了解自己的身体,进行安全的性行为,去医院进行艾滋病病毒检测,并实施积极的治疗。她表示,要想降低南非艾滋病高感染率的现状,男性所发挥的作用将非常重要。
出席活动的南非副总统莫特兰蒂表示,南非政府将一如既往地致力于降低艾滋病的感染率、加强家庭价值观、重建社会道德体系。在这一过程中,公民的社会责任感尤为重要。
“终身的兄弟”活动由南非国家艾滋病委员会、南非卫生部等政府和非政府组织共同发起,其主旨是呼吁男性坚持一个性伴侣,拒绝不安全的性行为,尊重和支持他们的伴侣,并懂得他们今天的所作所为将决定今后的命运。
根据统计,截止2008年,南非的艾滋病感染者为520万,占到全国总人口的10.6%。由于南非强奸案高发等因素,青年妇女是艾滋病的最大受害者,在20岁至34岁的青年妇女中,三分之一的人为艾滋病病毒携带者。
