艾滋病是一项世界难题，很多人把它看成一种肮脏与耻辱的象征，避之如瘟疫。但是，在我们身边却有这样一位医生，她用真情和爱心与前来咨询的艾滋病感染者近距离接触，并让一个又一个对生活感到绝望，感到生命已经走到尽头的求询者，重燃生活的勇气和信心，让一个又一个面临破碎的家庭重现欢声笑语。
她就是红河州疾病预防控制中心艾滋病自愿咨询检测（VCT）咨询员普英医生。
普英来自边疆少数民族地区，2006年由从事20多年的临床保健医疗工作，转换到州疾病预防控制中心的艾滋病防治工作。多年来，因为她的出色咨询和开导，让很多艾滋感染者在绝望中找到了希望。
角色转换
开始从事艾滋病自愿咨询检测咨询员工作时，普英并不适应。在从事临床保健工作时，她为产妇接生一个孩子后，看着孩子一天天成长会有一种成就感，孩子的父母也对医生充满了感激。但从事艾滋病自愿咨询检测工作后，她咨询了一个个艾滋病感染求询者，却无法体会到那种成就感，听了他们的诉求，自己的内心有着深深的压力。
普英说：“艾滋病感染者对我的倾诉我又不能对别人诉说，因为他们需要保密，即便在路上遇见他们时，我和他们也只能如陌生人一般。”这一度让她感觉不到工作的乐趣，没有找到工作的意义和价值。
有一次，两位年过花甲的老人找到普英作艾滋病咨询检测。经过检测，两位老人都感染了艾滋病。他们通过与普英一对一面对面的咨询交流后了解了艾滋病的感染途径及相关知识，当两人看到检测结果为阳性时，还是难以接受，他们相拥而哭，很绝望。后来那位大爷告诉普英，想让小孙女来做检测，因为孙女一次在喂他东西时，他一口咬下去把孙女的手咬破了。之后他还用力吸吮孙女手指上的血，他担心孙女会不会被感染。
第二天，这家人带着孙女到医院做HIV抗体检测，初筛结果是阳性。当时，普英担心这一家人受不了，暂时不把初筛结果告诉他们。对他们说，等等最后的确证结果，初筛检测不能说明孩子也感染艾滋病病毒，但孩子的长辈非常担心。
幸运的是，5天后，最终确证检测结果证明小女孩没有感染艾滋病。
在进一步的咨询中，普英了解到，这位大妈平时患有糖尿病，一直在家注射胰岛素，她叙述的一个细节引起普英的注意。她说：“平时，儿子在家帮我注射，有几次，儿子不小心被针头戳到手指。”普英立刻建议大妈叫其儿子来检测，还好结果证明她儿子没有感染艾滋病，两位老人终于松了一口气。
经过和这家人的咨询和交流，普英从此找到了工作的意义，找回了曾经的那份成就感，顺利地从一个临床保健医生进入了艾滋病自愿咨询检测（VCT）咨询员的工作状态。
