艾滋病病毒不会通过空气、食物、水等一般日常生活接触传播。
艾滋病的传播主要与人类的社会行为有关，完全可以通过规范人们的社会行为而被阻断，是能够预防的。
中国艾滋病诊治研究取得突破性进展

近日，北京协和医院艾滋病研究课题组在国际著名刊物《艾滋病杂志》上发表关于治疗艾滋病患者合并丙肝的疗效与副作用发生特点的研究结果，使艾滋病诊治研究取得创新性、突破性进展。据悉，该研究仍在继续深入。
1995年，美国正式推出艾滋病联合疗法，即通常所说的鸡尾酒疗法。但次年，美国和澳大利亚研究人员分别发表论文，认为鸡尾酒疗法只能控制病情，对于修复艾滋病患者体内已遭破坏的免疫系统则无能为力。
针对上述观点，当时身在法国，师从著名艾滋病临床专家卡特拉玛教授和免疫学专家奥特朗教授的北京协和医院感染科教授李太生则认为：“如果将患者治疗和观察的时间再延长一些，患者的免疫功能将会在临床症状有明显改善。”
通过对患者长期的观察随访，李太生最终发现，在抗艾滋病病毒（HIV）药物有效控制病毒复制6个月后，艾滋病患者的CD4+T细胞功能开始恢复，机体产生了新的有功能的免疫细胞。
1997年7月，李太生这一艾滋病治疗领域划时代的研究成果发表在世界著名的《科学》杂志上，免疫功能重建理论的证实，宣告了艾滋病不再是不治之症。同时，也再一次证明，推动医学进步的力量中，临床实践是不可或缺的重要环节。
此外，为解决艾滋病患者高额治疗费用，让中国艾滋病治疗真正走上本土化道路，北京协和医院艾滋病研究课题组采用价格20元的血常规检测代替近200元的CD4+T细胞数检测；用150余元的CD8+T细胞激活亚群检测代替1200元的病毒载量检测。
“这些创新都是通过大量实验室研究反复验证得出的。”李太生告诉《科学时报》，血常规中的总淋巴计数与CD4+T细胞数呈一定比例，而CD8+T细胞激活亚群数量又与病毒载量呈正比，这说明用廉价的血常规和CD8+T细胞激活亚群的检测可以作为疗效评价的替代手段。
“由于检测手段的变革，过去只能在省级医院完成的检测，现在县医院，甚至乡镇卫生院都可以进行了。”李太生指出。
随着患者生存期延长，冠心病、高血压、糖尿病等常见的慢性疾病，也可能威胁艾滋病患者健康。据李太生透露，目前，北京协和医院艾滋病诊疗中心已经联合内分泌、心内科、药剂科等多学科的临床与科研平台，在国内率先开展HIV相关的脂质代谢异常综合征、心血管及眼部相关并发症的研究。
