阿萨德表示：“同性性行为的到来，是印度的不幸。”他还呼吁“在保守国家，远离同性性行为这一西方外来物”。
报道称，同性性行为在印度一直被认为是违法行为，最高将处以十年囚禁。直到2009年，德里高级法院才废除此项法律。
报道还称，印度目前大约有250万HIV携带者，为亚洲国家之最。
