English Morphology--PRONOUN相互代词

表示相互关系的代词叫相互代词。主要有两个复合代词：each other;one another

相互代词表示谓语动词所叙述的动作或状态在涉及的对象之间是相互存在的。相互代词的主要句法功能是在句中作宾语或介词补足成分。

each other和one another两个代词可以交替使用，each other多用于非正式语体，而one another多用于正式语体。

在谈到具体人的相互关系时，通常既可用each other也可用one another，但如果泛指一般人的相互关系，则往往只能用one another

eg.

Jack and Mary speak highly of each other. 杰克和玛丽互相赞扬对方。

They two like each other,encourage each other and help each other.他们两喜欢对方，互相鼓励，互相帮助。

They sat for two hours without talking to each other/one another.他们坐了两小时，互相不说话。

Members of the committee had reached the piont where they were not talking to each other.说到那一点时，委员会的成员互不讲话。

相互代词在句中通常不能作主语，可以说:

Each of them knows what the others are doing.他们每个人都知道其他人在做什么。不可以说They know eah other is doing.

相互代词有属格的形式表示所有关系each other's;one another's，在名词词组中起限定作用.

They know each other's weak points.他们知道每人的弱点。

相互代词的属格形式通常不出现在作主语的名词词组中，比如通常不说

Each other's letters were delivered by a servant.

而应说Their letters to each other were delivered by a servant.他们每个人的信件都由一位仆人递送。
