对同性恋政治家，人们看重的是诚信

张北川，卫生部艾滋病专家咨询委员会委员、中国性学会理事。1994年出版我国首部有关同性恋理论专著《同性爱》，是国内首位在男同性恋人群中进行大规模艾滋病干预的专家。
人物周刊：西方民众对政治家公开自己的同性恋身份是持什么样的态度呢？
张北川：在西方，人们更多重视的是诚信。在政治家性取向问题上，人们对于政治家是否诚实的看重远大于性向，异性恋的政治家也可能会很卑劣，他们只会依据一个政治家对待私生活是否诚实来判断他对待政治生活是否会诚实。所以说，西方大多数人对政治家公开同性恋的身份还是持积极态度。
人物周刊：西方对于性取向观念的转变经历了一个怎样的过程呢？
张北川：西方性学起源于一些处在欧洲大陆的国家。19世纪10年代到20年代，那里就有了20多个叫做“人道主义委员会”的组织，参加者包括了同性恋者、性学家、人权主义者。直到那个时候，欧洲对待同性恋的问题还是很开放的。在欧洲，对同性恋变得不能容忍始于二战时期。在性学的发源地德国，纳粹党掌权之后，开始传播排斥同性恋的思想。这种对同性恋的歧视持续了很久。二战结束之后，随着科学的发展和公民权的扩大，尤其是20世纪80年代开始，艾滋病开始流行后，越来越多的同性恋者和他们的亲人向外界公开，人们得以广泛地接触到同性恋问题，发现了同性恋者和普通人相同的一面。特别是有影响力的人公开自己的同性恋身份后，民众才又慢慢开始重新认识和接受他们。
人物周刊：西方民众现在对同性恋已经没有歧视了吗？
张北川：当然并不是对同性恋完全没有歧视。我询问一个荷兰姑娘--荷兰是比德国更加开放的地方，对同性恋有没有歧视。她说从人们的眼神中可以看出来是有的，比如说在车站，异性情侣离别的时候人们会拍手，鼓励这种爱，但是如果是一对同性恋，人们的眼神就会很不友好。
人物周刊：为什么像美国这样经济更加发达的国家对同性恋问题反而更加保守呢？
张北川：在西方，不同国家的接受程度是不一样的，这与国内宗教势力的强弱有很大关系。美国是一个新教徒建立的国家，新教的势力很强，他们为了保持自己的文化，因此保守力量会更强些，美国有少数州还保持着法律用来打击同性恋行为。
人物周刊：随着西方同性婚姻逐渐合法化，同性家庭领养孩子也被提上日程，对这些孩子来说会有怎样的影响呢？
张北川：非常的性取向其实主要和基因有关，有先天的基础。因此，生长在这种家庭中的孩子的性取向也不会受到太大的影响，我认识的一对同性恋伴侣，他们收养的一个男孩子就没有表现出什么异常，这个孩子到了青春期，也会把漂亮女孩的海报贴在自己房间的墙上。在性格上，生长在这种家庭环境中的孩子可能会更宽容一些。当然，这些家庭中成长的孩子可能会有一些来自于社会的压力。
人物周刊：中国在同性恋问题上处于一个什么样的状况呢？
张北川：西方国家100年前就开始了性调查，普及这些知识，但直到现在才有了这样的性观念。这说明了人类对性的理解是需要一个很长时间的。我们改革开放以来性观念更新得很快，有很多东西直接学习了西方的模式，其中有一些是好的，比如在对待艾滋病上，全国很多地方都有了针对男性同性恋的“艾滋干预组织”。
中国在对待性取向问题上还有滞后的地方。在法律上，同性恋基本没有什么生存的空间，是个空白；在道德上，中国的传统道德是忌讳谈“性”的，同性恋就更不用说。整个社会对这方面都缺乏了解，只能通过教育来解决，但是不可能一下子就可以达到，需要一代人、两代人的努力。
